Text Messages
Text Messages explores the nuances of identity. Within each message the performer investigates how aspects of her personality are highlighted, depending on who she messages. If these personality changes are created to cater to who she texts, or actual parts of her identity is also explored.
Following each message is an improvisational section, where the performer reflects on the previous message. In this improvisational space she works though if the personality adopted is an accurate depiction of her identity.
Looked at as a whole, each message is carefully selected to represent a different side of the personality of the performer, in the hopes that these messages will ultimately come together to form a succinct identity. Usually it does not. Instead this piece serves to show how in a fleeting digital context it is so easy to change who we are or forget to stay true to our identities.
